Fire Cider

Fire Cider

Fire cider is reputed to boost energy, help to prevent colds and flus, ease sinus congestion, lower blood sugar, curb cravings, and aid digestion.

  • 1 part Garlic
  • 1 part Horseradish
  • 1 part Onions
  • ½ part Fresh ginger, chopped
  • Cayenne to taste or you can add 1 or 2 fresh, chopped jalapeno peppers
  • Honey to taste
  • Apple Cider Vinegar.
  • *Things you can add: ½ part fresh chopped turmeric, slices of lemon and/or orange.

Directions

Chop fresh garlic, onions, and horseradish into small pieces. Grate fresh ginger. The amounts and proportions vary according to your particular taste. If unsure, start with equal amounts of the first three ingredients and roughly half part of the ginger the first time you make this; you can always adjust the flavors in future batches.

Chop enough of the first four ingredients to fill a quart jar approximately half full. Put the chopped ingredients into the wide-mouth quart jar and cover with Apple Cider vinegar (keep vinegar about two to three inches above the chopped material). Add cayenne or jalapenos to taste. Let it sit a month. Strain and discard solids. Add honey to taste (add the honey after straining). Fire Cider should taste hot, spicy, and sweet. Great as a wintertime tonic and/or as a remedy for colds and coughs.

Horseradish ~ Horseradish stimulates digestion, increasing gastric secretions and appetite. A diuretic, it promotes perspiration, making it useful for fevers, colds, and flu. Horseradish has also been used as an expectorant and antibacterial.

Ginger ~ is valued for its ability to ease vomiting & nausea and to fight off colds, chills, and coughs. Also good for circulation and warming.

Garlic ~ A true superfood, garlic is antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal. It strengthens the immune and cardiovascular system.

Cayenne ~ is useful for increasing circulation and to get mucous flowing. Good for digestion, and cardiovascular and has anti-inflammatory properties for pain relief.
