We’ve all heard of the health benefits of a steaming bowl of oatmeal. The stem of oats is also used as a mild nervine tonic that helps to calm and nourish the nervous system. Oat straw has traditionally been used to help with anxiety and stress. It contains calcium, magnesium, and trace vitamins and minerals, is anti-inflammatory, and soothing to the skin. It is fairly inexpensive and you can purchase dried oat straw at any herb shop or online.
I love it as a tea for its calming and nutritive qualities. Oat straw has a rather bland taste so I always add some other nervine herbs for taste. See the recipe below.
